Since Novembre 1st 2018, Bruno Lévy is Director of the Inria Nancy - Grand Est research centre.

Born in 1972, Bruno Lévy is a former student of Télécom Nancy and holds a PhD in computer science (SIF/Gilles Kahn 2000 prize) and a Habilitation à diriger des Recherches (HdR) from the Institut National Polytechnique de Lorraine. His research in digital geometry is at the border between computer science and applied mathematics, and aims to create optimal 3D representations for certain types of calculations. 

Recruited as an Inria junior researcher in 2000, he created the ALICE project team in 2006 on computer graphics. With his team, he produces a set of algorithms for texture plating, now used in most animated films and video games. It makes most of its results available in its open source software (GEOGRAM and GRAPHITE), and also performs several industrial transfers. He obtained an ERC Starting Grant in 2007 and an ERC Proof of Concept in 2013, on the theme of mesh generation. Together with his mathematicians and physicists colleagues, he developed in 2016 the first efficient algorithm for optimal semi-discrete digital transport in 3D and is studying applications in computational physics.

His work was rewarded in 2011 with the Inria Young Researcher Award.
